Join BAP Baltimore and Diaspora Pa'Lante Collective for a teach-in event which examines United States capitalist exploitation and imperialism in Puerto Rico.

Using the sugar industry as an example, the profit generated via Puerto Rican sugar plantations undoubtedly trapped the country into trade deals which drastically shaped political, ecological, economic and social conditions for centuries. Similarly in Baltimore, where the Domino Sugar refinery has stood for over 100 years, there has been extensive damage to the environment, employment, health and lives of African/Black people of the city. This is an opportunity to discuss the centuries of underdevelopment and continued United States imposition on Puerto Rico and how it impacts daily life in Baltimore.
